Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has agreed to make the move to Turkish outfit Besiktas ahead of the transfer deadline
Liverpool beat Newcastle United 4-1 on Saturday night at Anfield to end their run of five Premier League games without a win.
The emphatic nature of the victory might prove decisive down the line as the Reds battle Chelsea and Manchester United for a place in the top four.
The Reds have a rare midweek off before hosting Manchester City in a huge game at Anfield next weekend. The immediate focus will now be on finalising any transfer deals before the 7pm deadline on Monday.
Curtis Jones has been linked with a potential move to Inter Milan in recent days but that will not proceed unless the homegrown player signs a new contract at Anfield.
Another Liverpool player who could be on the move is left-back Kostas Tsimikas. The Greek international is currently on loan at AS Roma and talks had taken place earlier in the window about him returning to Anfield.
That followed Tottenham interest in Andy Robertson but the Reds are now highly unlikely to sell the Scotland international to their Premier League rivals.
According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Tsimikas has agreed to move to another European club - this time it is Turkish outfit Besiktas. He said on X: “A full agreement has been reached with Kostas Tsimikas and Nuno Tavares. The club is expected to choose one of the two within the next 24 to 48 hours.”
The fact Tsimikas is potentially heading to another club signals his possible return to Anfield for the remainder of the campaign is increasingly unlikely - and in turn suggests Robertson will stay. The Scotsman is out contract in the summer, however.
Speaking about players leaving Liverpool before the end of the window, Slot said after the win over Newcastle: “I think there’s always a lot of talks about Liverpool and a lot of talks about Liverpool players. There was a lot of noise around the club the last week, [or] maybe I should say weeks.
“I think our fans showed today what noise really means – that’s being loud, because they were so helpful today. So that is what noise here is in Liverpool. I think we are trying to strengthen the squad and not trying to weaken it. Forty-eight hours, I don’t know how long to go, but let’s see when the window ends.”
