The Reds have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the player.
Liverpool have continued to be involved in the market for defensive reinforcements.
This follows on from a deal for Marc Guehi falling through in the final seconds of the window in the summer and the defender now moving to Manchester City.
With their other centre-back reinforcement Giovani Leoni now out injured for the entirety of the season, the Reds have continued to explore their options.
This morning has made it clear that a deal for RB Leipzig right-back Lutsharel Geertruida is close but that depends on Sunderland agreeing to the deal as he is currently with the Black Cats on loan.
Another defender Liverpool have been linked with on numerous occasions in recent weeks is Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.
The highly rated youngster is regarded as one of the hottest properties in Europe and it would be a real coup if Liverpool picked him up.
With such talent though, Liverpool are not alone in their admiration of the defender.
Chelsea are very keen and whilst Rennes have made it clear they do not wish to sell Jacquet within this window, Chelsea are pushing hard to secure a deal immediately, rather than in the summer.
Bayern Munich were also keen, but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed their departure from the race for this player’s signature.
His latest development on X arrived, saying:
“Liverpool vs Chelsea battle for Jeremy Jacquet remains ongoing, only for June 2026 as Rennes don’t want to sell now.”
“The deal will get done these days btu valid from season 2026/27.”
“Bayern are currently OUT. It’s Chelsea or Liverpool.”
Reinforcements for Liverpool in the defensive department at this current time make sense, but Sky Sports have reported Jacquet’s previous preference for a move to Chelsea, so we will see how this one develops.
