On Saturday evening, the Cleveland Cavs shook up the NBA world by trading wing De’Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-team deal with the Chicago Bulls that brought Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder back to Cleveland. The move will bolster the Cavs’ depth in the backcourt and comes just days before the February 5 trade deadline.
Still, after this move, the latest reports suggest that the Cavs might not be done looking to tweak their roster over the coming few days.
“Lonzo Ball is the next order of business for the Cavs, as they are continuing to see if his $10M salary slot for this season can net them anything on the trade block,” reported ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel on X, formerly Twitter.
“Ball is essentially operating on an expiring contract, as he has a $10M team option for the 26-27 season,” he added.
Ball has underperformed significantly for the Cavs so far this season after he was brought in from the Chicago Bulls over the summer in exchange for Isaac Okoro. While his defense and playmaking remain solid, Ball has seen his shooting numbers crater this season in Cleveland, and now that the team has brought in Schroder, a capable backup point guard, it would certainly make sense that the Cavs would look to move on from him.

As Siegel noted, Ball is essentially on an expiring contract, which is a valuable commodity in the NBA for teams looking to clear up cap space, and thus could motivate someone to look to trade for the former number two overall pick, despite his poor production this year.
In any case, the Cavs will next take the floor on Sunday evening as they begin a West Coast trip against the Portland Trail Blazers. Tipoff is set for 9:00 pm ET.
