Liverpool set to re-evaluate Calvin Ramsay situation after Lutsharel Geertruida push

Liverpool’s late attempt to sign Lutsharel Geertruida has shaken up some player’s futures.

The Reds have been remarkably shallow in recent weeks in the defensive department.

Arne Slot has had to draft midfielders into uncommon roles to plug the gaps, but they have moved quickly today to wrap up a last-minute deal for RB Leipzig right-back Geertruida before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

Lutsharel Geertruida is a player who can play across the backline and given his history of working under Arne Slot, he is a potential acquisition that just makes sense.

Whilst Dominik Szoboszlai has been deployed most frequently in place of the more natural full backs in Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley, Arne Slot has been scouring the market for a more suitable player to fill that position until the end of the season.

One player who is within the first team set up but looks unlikely to work his way into the manager’s plans is Calvin Ramsay.

After being brought to the club under Jurgen Klopp, unsuccessful loan spells and a barrage of injuries have halted his progress on Merseyside.

He was drafted in earlier this season and started against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

Ramsay was one of the standout players for Liverpool on an otherwise dismal night as the Reds crashed out of that competition.

Despite that performance, he hasn’t featured for Liverpool since, and James Pearce has now dropped an update on his future amidst Liverpool’s interest in Lutsharel Geertruida.

Via a post on X, Pearce wrote: “If Liverpool complete the deal for Geertruida then Calvin Ramsay could leave on loan before tomorrow’s deadline. Interest from the Championship.”

Ramsay has previously spent time away on loan to Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock.

He will be hoping he can find some form and regular playing time if a Championship club does come in for him.
