The versatile defender had to be substituted after four minutes of the 6-0 win over Qarabag on Wednesday. The injury means the Reds have no recognised right-backs available to face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday. “He [Frimpong] will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow,” Slot said. “He is out for a few weeks, but [it’s] not as bad as we thought, so something positive from something not so positive.” Frimpong, 25, who signed for the Reds in May, suffered a hamstring injury earlier this season and missed several weeks. Conor Bradley has already been ruled out for rest of the season after suffering a significant knee injury, involving damage to bone and ligament. Another regular right-back option, Joe Gomez, will also miss the game against Newcastle after a recent knock, but Slot expects him back soon. Liverpool boss Slot said striker Alexander Isak will not be rushed back from his broken leg and ankle surgery.

Slot gave an update on Frimpong
Arne Slot has confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong will be out for ‘a few weeks’ – but the Liverpool star’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared. Frimpong, 25, was forced off in the first half of Wednesday’s 6-0 victory over Qarabag in the Champions League. Liverpool were already light on defenders, with Ryan Gravenberch playing as a makeshift centre-back. But there’s good news ahead of Saturday’s home game against Newcastle on Saturday. Asked to provide an update on Frimpong, Slot told a pre-match press conference: “He will definitely not be in the squad for tomorrow. He’s out for a few weeks, but not as bad as we thought he would be out. So, something positive from something not so positive.” In more positive news, both Ibrahim Konate and Curtis Jones will be involved. Defender Konate has missed Liverpool’s last three games following the death of his father. “Ibou trained with us yesterday, trains with us today and will be in the squad tomorrow,” Slot revealed. “Curtis is again available. From the author’s point of view, hope Frimpong returns as soon as possible. It will be a tough game for Slot without Frimpong against Eddie Howe.
