Following a relatively quiet January transfer window for Liverpool, the Reds are gearing up for a hectic Deadline Day. After an emphatic 4-1 triumph over Newcastle United on Saturday that brought their five-game league winless run to an end, the Merseyside club could be poised to welcome a new signing.
Lutsharel Geertruida is reportedly close to completing a switch to Anfield, having spent the opening half of the campaign at Sunderland on loan from parent club RB Leipzig. A move to the reigning Premier League champions would represent a reunion between the Dutchman and his former Feyenoord manager, Arne Slot.
The acquisition would prove particularly timely for supporters given the club's concerning defensive crisis, with Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni all currently unavailable through injury.
Confidence appears to be gradually returning at Anfield as we examine the latest transfer speculation emerging from Liverpool, including one player questioning his position within Slot's plans.

Lutsharel Geertruida is reportedly edging closer to a Liverpool transfer that would see him become their first senior acquisition in the January window. Since arriving at Sunderland on loan at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, Lutsharel Geertruida has featured in the starting XI for 10 of his 17 Premier League appearances.
He's made a positive impression at the Stadium of Light but the chance to move to Anfield and link up again with Arne Slot, under whom he featured at Feyenoord, appears to have proved too tempting to turn down.
According to Mail Sport, the adaptable defender has already informed his Sunderland teammates that he's departing in news that's reportedly left them 'upset'. Regis Le Bris' team will be pursuing a compensation deal for permitting his exit whilst also finding a replacement given the likelihood of his departure.
Dominik Szoboszlai revelation
It was a fortnight ago when Dominik Szoboszlai first spoke publicly about talks over a contract extension with Liverpool. He's now addressed the matter once more following an outstanding display in Liverpool's 4-1 triumph over Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old was deployed at right-back against the Magpies - a role he's occupied on multiple occasions this season due to injury problems affecting Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.

Having confirmed his desire to prolong his Liverpool stint, the midfielder was questioned about whether he could continue operating at right-back, which he promptly dismissed. He replied: "Not long-term, not even medium-term to be honest in my head.
"As I've said before I'm a midfielder and hopefully our right-back is going to come back from injury and I can get back in the middle. But if the team needs me or the coach needs me there I will play and try to give my best but now Wata (Endo) is ready to play, also Curtis (Jones) is ready to play there, so we have quite a few options now.
"I think midfielder is more me than the right-back, I am close to the goal and I can be more dangerous. I feel from the right position I am far from the goal but I am doing everything for the team so we don't concede, that's the most important thing when you play defence, and also help up front with crosses and long balls, whatever the team needs."
