Liverpool need to do a bit of fine tuning to his squad, could a big money swap deal be the answer to one problem?
After a huge overhaul in the summer, Liverpool have been left with some fine tuning to do.
This should, on paper, make the recruitment team’s job easier only having to look for one or two positions rather than for throughout the team. After losing Trent Alexander-Arnold last year, right-back has continued to be a troublesome position with as many as five players taking their turn to impress the manager to varying degrees of success.
Curtis Jones swap deal that would solve Liverpool problem
Conor Bradley looks likes Slot’s favourite in terms of having the right blend of defensive ability and attacking intent with Jeremie Frimpong, so far, looking more like he will be more productive in the Premier League higher up the park.
Calvin Ramsay has never put a foot wrong in a red shirt and yet Slot just doesn’t rate the Scotland international with the manager preferring to shoe-horn Dominik Szoboszlai into the defence instead when things have been desperate.
A swap deal could be the perfect solution for both clubs with Inter needing reinforcements in midfield after agreeing to sell Davide Frattesi to Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool don’t need many players, but a guaranteed starting right-back would be considered a success if Richard Hughes was able to pull off a masterstroke with a late game-changing January swap deal.
How much would Dumfries cost?
Dumfries is one of Europe’s most respected right-backs and yet, according to Fabrizio Romano, his transfer fee is more than affordable: “Liverpool had a conversation with Inter [on Friday], a club-to-club conversation with Inter, very good relationship. From what I’m told, Liverpool asked about the situation of Dumfries. The release clause of around €20m-€25m (£17.3m-£21.7m) is not valid in January, only in the summer.
“The understanding is Liverpool asked about the player and the injury situation. At the moment, Dumfries is still expected to be out for around 10, 15, 20 days. It should not be a long one. Liverpool got this information, but at the moment they didn’t send any bid or start any negotiation.
“My understanding is that Liverpool could potentially only consider this possibility due to the injury on a loan deal, and Inter don’t want to do a loan deal for Dumfries.
“At the moment there is nothing in it. There is just conversations club-to-club. Let’s see if Liverpool decide to attack, but at the moment it’s just a normal conversation.”
Things can change quickly under the pressure of the transfer clock, especially with the fear of missing out.
