A brace from Dominic Solanke helped Tottenham recover from two goals down to salvage a point against Manchester City, in a tale of two halves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Pep Guardiola's men took the lead on eleven minutes when Rayan Cherki slotted home into the bottom corner as Man City dominated the opening 45 minutes, but were unable to extend their advantage.
However, that changed with a minute to go in the first half as the Cityzens made it two. Bernardo Silva poked the ball into the path of Antoine Semenyo, who found the back of the net score his fourth goal in City colours.
But Spurs pulled a goal back just eight minutes into the second half when Solanke poked home to give the home side hope. The 28-year-old would then go on to add his second to level the game, latching onto Conor Gallagher's cross to score a delightful scorpion kick.
Whilst the home side will be satisfied with a point, the result has significant impact on their north London rivals Arsenal, who now move six points clear at the top of the table.
Story of the Match
Both sides came into the game off the back of 2-0 victories in the Champions League. Four changes were made by Spurs boss Thomas Frank from the Frankfurt game, as Kevin Danso and Djed Spence dropped out through injury. Radu Dragusin came into the centre of defence whilst Conor Gallagher joined Yves Bissouma in midfield, with Dominic Solanke leading the line.
Meanwhile, ten years to the day since he was announced as the new Man City manager, Pep Guardiola made three changes from the win over Galatasaray as Abdukodir Khusanov partnered Marc Guehi at the back, who came in for Nathan Ake. Jeremy Doku dropped out through injury with Antoine Semenyo taking his place, whilst Omar Marmoush made way for Rodri.
The visitors had an early chance when Erling Haaland slipped the ball through to Semenyo, who got the better of Joao Palhinha before seeing his effort kept out by Guglielmo Vicario.
However, with eleven minutes on the clock, Manchester City broke the deadlock. Bissouma was caught in possession by Bernardo Silva inside his own half, resulting in Haaland playing through Rayan Cherki down the right-hand channel, who fired a low shot into the bottom left corner.
The Cityzens continued to dominate in the opening exchanges and almost doubled their advantage. Rodri picked out Haaland with a long ball over the top, as the Norwegian international lifted the ball over Vicario but onto the roof of the net.
Cherki then came close scoring his second midway through the first half, capitalising on a defensive error from Dragusin and driving into the Spurs penalty area, where he found space on the edge of the six-yard box, only for his shot to be tipped away by Vicario.
The home side struggled to find a way past Guardiola's side and provided very little attacking threat. Spurs wasted an opportunity when Xavi Simons played through Randal Kolo Muani down the right before attempting to pick out Solanke in the middle, though his cross went behind the Englishman.
Whilst Tottenham looked toothless in attack, City wasted multiple chances to extend their advantage. But in the closing stages of the first half, the away side finally added a second. A poor clearance from Dragusin gifted possession straight to Rodri, who played through Silva, as the midfielder put the ball on a plate for Semenyo, who applied a composed finish past the goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, it took until first half stoppage time for the home side to conjure their first shot on target, as a free-kick from Simons was comfortably held by Gianluigi Donnarumma, bringing an end to a dismal half of football from Spurs.
Five minutes after the restart, the home side looked to find a route back into the game but a first time strike from Gallagher sailed miles over the bar. However, moments later, Spurs came very close to scoring when the ball fell to Destiny Udogie, as the full-back drew an excellent stop from Donnarumma.
But Thomas Frank's side were handed a lifeline on 53 minutes when Solanke found some space inside the penalty area before shrugging off the challenge of Khusanov and prodding the ball home via a deflection from Guehi.
Guehi nearly restored City's two-goal lead, but headed wide from a Cherki corner. With 20 minutes to go, however, Spurs levelled the game in remarkable fashion. Gallagher drove forward down the right before crossing towards Solanke, who scored his second with an audacious scorpion kick.
Momentum began to swing the way of the home side, as they looked to complete the turnaround. Substitute WIlson Odobert almost made an instant impact off the bench but was denied by Donnarumma, as the Italian shot stopper was called into action shortly after to tip over a curling effort from Simons.
However, City looked to conjure up a response but Silva's cross was headed wide by Tijjani Reijnders. Guardiola's side looked to push for a third as scramble in the box resulted in Haaland scooping the ball over the bar. Substitute Nico Gonzalez then crossed towards Haaland, who headed the ball onto Reijnders, but his header was narrowly wide.
