Liverpool are now in pole position ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, according to Foot Mercato.
The Reds are in the market for defensive reinforcements in 2026, with Ibrahima Konate set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer as it stands. The French defender is out of contract at the end of the season, and he's able to speak to clubs from abroad over a possible exit.
Liverpool also currently have injury troubles in defence, so a move for a defender in the current transfer window wouldn't be a surprise. Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez, and Jeremie Frimpong are all on the treatment table at the moment, with Arne Slot running out of options for his defensive line.

According to a report from Santi Aouna, Liverpool are now in pole position to sign Rennes defender Jacquet, ahead of Chelsea. The Merseyside outfit want to reach an agreement for his signature in the 'next few hours', with Jacquet already giving the green light for a move.
Jacquet, described as a 'monster', looks set to be on the move in the near future, and Anfield could be his destination. Whether Liverpool will be aiming to bring him in now or in the summer transfer window remains to be seen, but it appears that they are pushing to secure his signature as soon as possible.

Although the signing of Jacquet for the summer transfer window would be a welcome addition, there's no doubt they also need to bring in reinforcements before Monday's deadline. The Reds could do with additional defensive cover, and they were in the market for a new right-back before a deal fell through on Sunday.
