Everton have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Tyrique George on loan for the rest of the season. The Toffees have an option to buy the teenager in the summer, and he is set to have a medical.
According to a report in The Athletic, George was expected to leave this month and had multiple clubs interested in the winger. Everton stepped up their interest in the Chelsea star after the injury to Jack Grealish.
The Manchester City loanee is expected to be out for the rest of the season with a foot injury, and that has seen them jump into the market for a winger. George was linked with a move to Benfica last week, with Jose Mourinho looking to lure in the teenager.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior left the door open for the winger's exit in this window, saying that he was unsure about the teenager's future. He praised the academy product for his attitude in training and said (via SI):
"Tyrique is a player of immense potential who I've been aware of for a long time. He's been unfortunate. The first game against Charlton, he travelled with the group. He wasn't in the group. Yesterday he was on the bench. I've said this to the players, your background, whether you're an academy player, whether you've been signed for £100m, it's about what you do in training."
"I have to say his attitude to training and what I've seen his attitude in the group has been top class. So who's to know? A lot of things have to come together for a player to leave. You need the right interest. You need the right offer. It needs to be right for the player. At the moment, I've had nothing in terms of Tyrique, and I continue to work with him in the group."
George was close to joining Fulham in the summer, but the Cottagers decided not to go ahead with the deal on deadline day. He has been in the matchday squad just twice under Rosenior and is yet to play under the new manager.
Chelsea star set for Strasbourg move
Chelsea are set to send Datro Fofana to Strasbourg on deadline day. The striker was in talks to leave the club this window and was in talks with Auxerre.
Marc Mechenoua has now reported that the final details are being discussed between the two clubs.
The move comes just hours after reports suggested that Emmanuel Emegha was set to be sidelined for six weeks. The club captain has suffered a relapse of his injury.
