Chelsea are poised to face a different-looking Wolves side in the Premier League next weekend

Chelsea are set to face a different-looking Wolves side next weekend with the Premier League strugglers completing a handful of late deals before the transfer deadline.

Rob Edwards’ side welcome the Blues to Molineux on Saturday, where Liam Rosenior will look to make it four-straight wins in his first four Premier League games as Chelsea manager.

The bottom side will be bolstered by the arrival of a former Manchester United wonderkid, however.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Angel Gomes is set to join Wolves on loan from French side Marseille.

He said on X: “Wolves agree deal in principle to sign Angel Gomes, here we go!

“Loan move from Olympique Marseille for €1m fee plus buy option clause around €7m fee.

“OM have approved the deal, waiting for formal steps and documents ahead of signatures.”

Nine years ago, Gomes became a Premier League record breaker as the first player to play who was born since the year 2000. He became United’s youngest Premier League player in the process too, as he was 16 years and 263 days old.

He was called up to the England squad for the first time back in 2024 during the autumn internationals. Lee Carsely was in charge of the Three Lions, with Gomes earning four senior caps having represented England at every youth level.

His last international appearance was October 2024.

The London-born midfielder joined Marseille on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Lille but things have not gone to play for him at the Ligue 1 club.

He has not started a league game since November and the club decided he would be allowed to depart this month. He could now make his Wolves debut against Chelsea if the deal is sealed in time.
