Liverpool are looking to strengthen in the final hours of the transfer window, but could there be a departure or two?
Liverpool finely tuned their squad in the summer with more bodies leaving than anyone would have predicted.
Besiktas target Liverpool star
Another name has emerged as a potential departure though with Arne Slot hinting that there could be more work done to his squad in the closing hours of the window. It was Aouna again who has reported that Giorgi Mamardashvili is also a target for the Turks as they eye a double Anfield swoop.
“Beşiktaş are currently working on several signings across different positions. A loan offer has been submitted to Liverpool for Giorgi Mamardashvili: €2 million for 6 months, with an option to extend the loan. Beşiktaş are also attempting to sign a top-class number 9 striker. More to come…”
With Alisson back between the sticks, Marmadashvili could be permitted to leave Liverpool. He is a more than reliable backup, but the opportunity to get regular game time is a good one.
The only doubts would be whether or not Freddie Woodman could be relied upon should the Reds no.1 suffer an unfortunate injury and they are still in with a shout of winning the Champions League.
Slot has high hopes for Mamadashvili
Mamadashvili still has a lot to improve on if he is to one day replace the Brazil no.1, but he has time on his side and has the sort of frame needed in modern football. Slot though, is already a fan: “We knew we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper, but when he plays his first game, that’s always the best way of seeing that he’s adjusted well or not.” Slot said after the 25-year old made his debut.
“I think we saw in that game that he’s adjusted really well to our club. Which is not a surprise, because he’s a quality goalkeeper. Now he can do what Caoimhin (Kelleher) had to do so many times in the past, replacing Alisson – hopefully like Caoimhin did so many times before.”
Kelleher was a more than able deputy, the difference is, he was never really being pencilled in to be the man to replace a Liverpool legend. Mamadashvili, on the other hand, could be.
