Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Jeremy Jacquet, with a deal now in place for the defender to join the club in June 2026.
The Reds have moved quickly to secure one of Europe’s most highly rated young centre-backs, beating off competition to finalise an agreement with Stade Rennais FC and the player himself.
This is a major statement from Liverpool in the transfer market. After missing out so publicly on Marc Guehi, this was a race the Reds had to win.
Jacquet, who is just 20 years old, has been tracked closely by several top clubs after breaking through at Rennes and establishing himself as one of the most promising defenders in Ligue 1.
His performances over the past season put him firmly on the radar across Europe, with his age, composure on the ball, and defensive intelligence marking him out as a long-term project for any elite side.
From a Liverpool point of view, the timing of this deal makes perfect sense. With Ibrahima Konate’s future up in the air, Liverpool have acted in filling the gap Konate may leave.
The club have been looking to strengthen their centre-back options for the future, especially with uncertainty around contracts and squad depth in defence.
Rather than waiting for the market to become crowded, Liverpool have acted early and secured a player they believe can become a cornerstone of their back line for years to come.
Liverpool outmuscled Premier League rivals Chelsea to secure the talent’s signature. The 20-year-old is set to have his Liverpool medical tomorrow.
The agreement has now been reportedly completed.
According to the Romano, “Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool, here we go! Deal agreed now for June 2026, as revealed.”
“It is understood that the fee is €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons to Rennes, while “Jeremy has agreed personal terms with #LFC.”
The deal is already described as significant on a global level, with the report adding that the “agreement [is] done for summer 2026 for one of the most talented CBs in the world.”
Liverpool secure major signing
For Liverpool, this is not just a signing for now, but a move aimed at the next phase of the squad.
Jacquet arrives as a long-term investment, but also as a player expected to compete immediately at the highest level.
It is a clear signal that Liverpool are planning ahead — and they are doing it with one of the brightest defensive talents in world football.
