Rennes expect to secure a “record sale” for Chelsea target Jeremy Jacquet, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that Liverpool’s involvement has increased the cost of the transfer:
“It’s Chelsea against Liverpool, Liverpool against Chelsea. They are battling on every single million, on every single detail of this deal, talking to Rennes, talking to the player. Jeremy Jacquet is a fantastic centre back for the future and for present – [sic] 19 years old. But present means summer because Rennes will not sell the player in this window.”
“It’s now for the summer, it’s now for season 26/27. Liverpool are trying, Chelsea are trying. It’s a battle about the project, about the money, about the salary, about the future of the player, [and] the development plan. So, they are trying in every way to convince the player and get the green light. Rennes will get a record sale, so more than the 64 million euros they received from Manchester City for Jeremy Doku.”
Why are teams willing to pay so much for Jacquet?
The teenager has already established himself as a top centre-half in Ligue One, and there are many who feel he could become one of the top centre-halves in the world in the not too distant future.

Jacquet is already an imposing figure at 6ft 3, and he has a decent passing range and a fair amount of pace.
Chelsea are also keen on another young French centre-back
Jacquet is not the only defender based in France that the Blues have reportedly made a bid for. It was reported over the weekend that an opening offer worth €30m (£26m) was made for Nantes teenager Tylel Tati.
The 18-year-old has even less experience than Jacquet. He has made just 19 appearances for Nantes’ first team, having made his breakthrough back in August.
