**Liverpool could make an approach for Galatasaray right-back Roland Sallai if their move for Lutsharel Geetruida stalls, according to _Sky Sport Switzerland_ reporter Sacha Tavolieri.**
The journalist says there are still concerns that Sunderland could “block” the Dutchman’s move, despite [**agreements**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-transfer-news-lutsharel-geertruida-2/) with both the player and parent club RB Leipzig, and Sallai is the fallback option:
“Liverpool have a concrete interest in Lutsharel Geertruida. Case is being pushed internally by Arne Slot, who knows the qualities of his compatriot well.”
“Roland Sallai, of Galatasaray, represents another alternative if Sunderland were to block the deal.”
What do Liverpool fans need to know about Sallai?
-------------------------------------------------
The 28-year-old is an international teammate of both Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez. He has only recently been converted into a fullback.
For most of his career, Sallai has been deployed as a right winger, but Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has mostly used him on the right-hand side of defence.
This season, the Hungarian has played 29 times in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and providing 6 assists. He actually played against Liverpool in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win back in September, coming on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes.
Szoboszlai is having to play out of position
--------------------------------------------
With Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez all unavailable, Dominik Szoboszlai has been switched to the right-back spot. The midfielder has been an excellent auxiliary option but he would undoubtedly welcome the arrival of Sallai (or Geertruida).
Speaking candidly after the 4-1 win over Newcastle at the weekend, Szoboszlai made it clear that he doesn’t see himself playing in defence for long:
“Not long-term, not even medium-term to be honest in my head. As I’ve said before, I’m a midfielder, and hopefully our right-back is going to come back from injury, and I can get back in the middle.”
