Mamadou Sarr will to return to Chelsea this month, but nothing is ever certain after the drama with Jeremy Jacquet.
Chelsea set their sights on signing a central defender just a day after losing to Arsenal.
This resulted in the Blues kickstarting their pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet, a central defender who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Jacquet was believed to have 100% given his word to Chelsea, whether that be joining this month or in the summer. But in a huge turn of events, the Frenchman is now heading to Liverpool.
It’s gutting for Chelsea. To lose out on a main target after weeks of negotiations stinks, and supporters deserve answers on what happened.
And now Mamadou Sarr is making his return to Stamford Bridge.
We had the whole of January to sign Jeremy Jacquet and come up short 😡
Who is to blame for this?!

Fabrizio Romano confirms Mamadou Sarr to return to Chelsea
Chelsea held talks with Mamadou Sarr about recalling him from his loan at Strasbourg.
This would see Aaron Anselmino, who was recalled from his loan at Borussia Dortmund, heading to France to replace Sarr.
And it’s now confirmed to be happening.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea are set to recall Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg.
Decision made as Chelsea believes Sarr is a top talent at centre back for the long term, a key part of the project, and his return is imminent. Formal steps to follow with Chelsea on deadline day.

Mamadou Sarr is the sensible option for Chelsea
Mamadou Sarr was one of the standouts during the African Cup of Nations, which is a huge reason as to why his development at Chelsea has been put on fast forward.
The fact that he played under Rosenior during his time at Strasbourg also helps. He knows exactly the kind of player he’s getting, and it’s a big reason why Sarr wants to come back.
It’s a cost-effective way of getting a centre-back before the deadline, but it’s not what fans will want.
Missing out on Jeremy Jacquet is devastating. When you consider the fact that Chelsea believes he’ll be one of the world’s best, it’s baffling as to why they haven’t just paid up.
