Report: Liam Rosenior considered adding striker to Chelsea squad in January, he's now suffered injury setback

During this transfer window, Chelsea have prioritised the signing of a central defender.

Chelsea really liked Jeremy Jacquet but were not able to agree a deal with Rennes. The French club have been reluctant to sell a key player in the middle of the season but have now agreed a summer transfer with Liverpool.

The Blues also wanted to bring in a new midfielder, targeting Douglas Luiz before his move to Aston Villa.

If you could sign any player before the transfer window closes, who would it be? ✍️

Emanuel Emegha could be out for another six weeks

Last month, it was claimed that Chelsea and Liam Rosenior discussed the possibility of signing Emanuel Emegha right now, though the striker would not have even been able to play.

Emegha, who already has a pre-agreement with Chelsea to join them in the summer, has been out injured and could now be set for an even longer period on the sidelines.

According to L’Equipe, Emegha has suffered a relapse of his muscle injury and faces another six weeks in the stands.

In total, the 22-year-old has only managed to make seven appearances in Ligue 1 this season because of fitness issues. However, he was able to score four goals across those matches, which is a good return.

Ultimately, you can see why Chelsea have decided to take a punt on Emegha, but Blues fans may have to wait a while before they get to see him at Stamford Bridge.

Emanuel Emegha set to get opportunity at Chelsea next season

Emegha is 22 and has no Premier League experience, but it looks like the plan is for him to be part of Chelsea’s first team for the 2026/27 campaign.

Last October, it was reported that Chelsea have no intention to loan out Emegha in the summer.

The Dutchman has already played under Rosenior and was defended by his former boss when he came in for criticism from Strasbourg supporters after announcing his decision to join the Blues.
