Inter Milan president Giuseppe Marotta says there is "absolutely no chance" Denzel Dumfries will join Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
Attacking right-back Dumfries, a Dutch international team-mate of Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong, was linked with a move to the Reds in the closing days of the January transfer window, with some reports even suggesting a shock swap deal with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones could be on the cards.
However Liverpool have no intention of either signing Dumfries or allowing Jones to leave, and instead had turned their attentions towards another Dutch international defender, Lutsharel Geertruida.

The Reds have been hoping to take Geertruida on loan before the transfer deadline if they could agree deals with both the 25-year-old's parent club RB Leipzig and Sunderland, but that is now looking unlikely.
Geertruida, who played for Arne Slot at Feyenoord, would have added depth to a Liverpool defensive rank currently missing the injured Frimpong as well as fellow right-back Conor Bradley, who is absent for the remainder of the season.
He was seen as a useful utility option for the Reds given that he can also play in the centre of defence, where the Reds are missing the injured Giovanni Leoni and have frequent fitness doubts over Joe Gomez.
Dumfries, 29, is known for his attacking runs from full-back and scored twice in Inter's epic Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona last season.
He has made 15 appearances for Inter this season, but has been absent since November with an ankle injury.
Despite that, Inter president Marotta still sees him as an important member of the first-team squad, and speaking ahead of Sunday's Serie A match against Cremonense he told reporters: “Liverpool keen on Dumfries? Some phone calls are to the limit of correctness, done even in a sudden way, which do nothing but destabilise”.
“Absolutely no chance. Dumfries stays with us here at Inter”.
