Arsenal forward Beth Mead reflects on an ‘amazing’ achievement as the Gunners secured the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup trophy on Sunday evening.
The Gunners left it late in an epic 3-2 victory over Corinthians at Arsenal Stadium. It was an extra-time winner from Caitlin Foord that saw European Champions Arsenal claim their title as winners of the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
“Yeah, it’s special,” Gunners forward Beth Mead reflected on the moment. “We didn’t do the easiest way. Obviously, it was probably a very nice game for the neutral to watch. But, it’s amazing to be able to make history, win the first Champions Cup and lift that trophy.
“To be honest, I thought we played well,” Mead reflected on the performance against Corinthians. “We dominate the game like it’s a set piece and a penalty, which is ultimately give them opportunities, which we need to be more switched on in those moments, but we always have full belief what we can do as a team, that we can score goals. It’s not always the prettiest of football, but we got the win, and sometimes we haven’t done that in the past.”

Arsenal aim to ‘fight for every trophy’ says Beth Mead
Despite what has been a precarious season for Arsenal in the Women’s Super League (WSL) – currently 13 points off league-leaders Manchester City with a game in hand – Arsenal have claimed the first available trophy to them as early as February 1st. Knocked out of the Subway Women’s League Cup and far off in the league title race, the Gunners were able to ensure that the club continue their trophy-winning streak in 2025/26.
“We’ve set our targets at the start of the season,” Mead said. “There’s one trophy that we can obviously call ours, and we aim to, obviously fight for every trophy that’s in front of us still.”
Arsenal’s depth gave them a strong advantage against Corinthians, as Player of the Tournament Frida Maanum and matchwinner Caitlin Foord were amongst just some of the names to make a difference for the Gunners off the bench.
“It’s [depth] super fun,” Mead stated. “I think we all have our qualities. We’re all bringing very, very different things to the teams that we play against. I can imagine it’s not nice seeing different types of wingers come on the pitch.
“Ultimately, one of our wingers came on and scored the winning goal today. So, we’re all very, very competitive. We’re fighting positions, and we’re all trying to the best that we can do.”
