Liverpool are aiming to beat Chelsea to the signing of Jeremy Jacquet.
Liverpool are aiming to swiftly tie up a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet.
The Reds have reached an agreement with Rennes to sign the defender before tonight’s 19.00 GMT transfer deadline. The fee will be £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons. Part of the conditions is that Jacquet will remain at Rennes on loan for the remainder of the season before moving to Anfield in the summer.
According to Ben Jacobs, Jacquet will have a medical today, with Liverpool trying to avoid Chelsea hijacking the signing. The Stamford Bridge side have also been in pursuit of the 20-year-old, who has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season.
Jacobs posted on X: “Jacquet is set to have a medical on Monday ahead of a summer move if all goes to plan. Still some caution from within Liverpool in case of a Chelsea hijack, but Liverpool trying to now finalise as quick as possible.”
Liverpool have been trying to add to their squad for the second half of the season. They are short in defence, with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni ruled out for the rest of the season with respective knee injuries, while Jeremie Frimping has a groin problem.
The Reds had been in talks about potentially signing Lutsharel Geertruida, who was Arne Slot’s captain at Feyenoord. Geertruida is on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig and the complexity of the deal meant it was difficult to agree with the three parties involved.
