Football, however, simply isn't that cut and paste. The Man City of old would have killed the game. The current version slept-walked into a battle which saw Dominic Solanke come out on top not once, but twice, to eventually equalise with a stunning scorpion kick in the second-half.
From awkward silence, Spurs fans erupted into frantic encouragement after a second period of action which could have so easily resulted in a shock comeback victory.
Spurs fans will need no reminding about what their 2-2 draw has done for arch-rivals Arsenal, but the Lilywhites could yet get their own back in the transfer market this summer.
