Scouts sent: Tottenham now frontrunners to sign "excellent" midfielder ahead of Arsenal - report

Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly among the frontrunners to sign a midfield star ahead of Arsenal, having already sent their scouts.

Tottenham rescue shock point against Man City

It was an awkward atmosphere inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As if all those in attendance were already resigned to a battering at the hands of Manchester City. As if they'd almost be fine with the outcome as long as it meant that change was on the way.

It's an atmosphere that Man City could sense from the very get-go and their rapid start came as no surprise for anyone watching on. Thomas Frank could have heard a pin drop when Rayan Cherki fired home City's opener in the 11th minute. It's a feeling that Spurs' home support have become all too familiar with.

The under-pressure manager would have then felt the glares coming from the stands when Antoine Semenyo doubled the visitors' lead before the break and the echo of boos that arrived with the referee's whistle. Tottenham, by all means, looked down and out.

Football, however, simply isn't that cut and paste. The Man City of old would have killed the game. The current version slept-walked into a battle which saw Dominic Solanke come out on top not once, but twice, to eventually equalise with a stunning scorpion kick in the second-half.

From awkward silence, Spurs fans erupted into frantic encouragement after a second period of action which could have so easily resulted in a shock comeback victory.

Spurs fans will need no reminding about what their 2-2 draw has done for arch-rivals Arsenal, but the Lilywhites could yet get their own back in the transfer market this summer.

Tottenham now frontrunners to sign Stankovic

According to reports in Italy, as relayed by TeamTalk, Tottenham are now frontrunners to sign Aleksandar Stankovic from Club Brugge and hold the strongest interest in the midfielder alongside Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano shares Tottenham transfer update involving Liverpool star

Spurs have been knocking on the door at Anfield this month.

This means that they may have jumped ahead of Arsenal, who were the first Premier League side to show interest in the 20-year-old earlier this season.

The Gunners were reportedly ready to make an offer, but could now be pipped to the post by their direct rivals after Spurs dispatched their scouts.

Described as a deep lying playmaker with "excellent long passing" and "line breaking passes" by Como scout Ben Mattinson last year, Stankovic is the exact long-term talent that could partner the likes of Archie Gray in years to come.

He won't grab immediate headlines if he arrives in the summer, but the Serbian is certainly one for the future.
