**Liverpool have agreed a £60m deal to sign highly rated Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet ahead of the January transfer deadline.**
The deal comes after Arne Slot's side failed to get a deal for former Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi over the line during the summer, with the England international joining Manchester City this month.
20-year-old Jacquet has played 18 times in Ligue 1 this season, and is viewed as a long term option alongside summer recruits Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez.
According to [The Athletic's David Ornstein](https://x.com/David_Ornstein/status/2018223027175969008?s=20), despite the £55m plus £5m in add ons deal being secured, Jaquet will not be joining Liverpool until the summer and will complete the 25/26 season in France.

The report claims the France u21 international will fly to the north west on Monday morning and sign a deal until 2030 with the option of a one year extension.
Liverpool have beaten Premier League leaders Arsenal to the youngster's signature, as the Gunners held long term interest following his impressive loan spell at second division side Clermont Foot.
