Liam Rosenior desperately needs him - the one signing Chelsea have to make on deadline day - opinion

Liam Rosenior will be left disappointed if Chelsea do not complete a permanent transfer before the window slams shut this evening.

After reports that Rosenior was seeking assurances about signings before he took over as first team manager, the Blues have endured a quiet January transfer window up to now.

The majority of the action has revolved around centre-backs. Chelsea were very keen on signing Jeremy Jacquet, although look to have been beaten to the punch by Liverpool for that deal.

In an ideal world, who is walking through the door on Deadline Day?🤔

It has become clear that Rosenior needs another option in his squad for this season, and he should look back to Chelsea’s three-man shortlist which emerged when links to Jacquet began.

Chelsea must sign Marcos Senesi on deadline day

One player who featured on there is Marcos Senesi, currently featuring every week for fellow top-flight side, Bournemouth.

The centre-back would bring some much-needed experience to the squad. The Argentine is 28 years of age, and has been in the Premier League since 2022.

The signing would not be difficult to pull off either. Senesi’s contract is set to extend this summer, and he has no interest in signing a new deal.

After watching Manchester City bring in Marc Guehi in similar circumstances already this month, the Blues need to show they are not prepared to fall behind their rivals at the top.

Chelsea briefing they’re okay with current options

Chelsea responded to missing out on Jacquet by recalling Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, sending Aaron Anselmino to the Ligue 1 side to make up for them losing a centre-back.

However, the Blues are insisting now they are okay with their current defensive options for the rest of the season.

Despite the fact that the club have the impressive Josh Acheampong already in their ranks, the absence of Levi Colwill has hit them hard this season.

Given the fact that Senesi would be available on a cut-price deal, he is the player Chelsea have to be bringing in today.
