Chelsea are about to confirm two pieces of deadline day business.

Chelsea are about to complete two pieces of business as they race Monday’s transfer deadline. The Blues were hoping to add two new arrivals this month, but it seems that will no longer be the case.

The Blues have missed out on prime target Jeremy Jacquet, who is joining Liverpool at the end of the season instead after the Reds reached a deal with Rennes.

That means Chelsea will not only miss out on their main January target, but they will also miss out on getting him in the summer, which was supposed to be their compromise when trying to reach a deal with Rennes.

The Blues have now had to get creative with their defensive recruitment this month, recalling a second defender from a loan. Aaron Anselmino was the first to return, coming back from a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund, but he was then sent to sister club Strasbourg.

That move, in all likelihood, was in anticipation of Chelsea recalling centre-back Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell with Strasbourg. Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “BREAKING: Chelsea set to recall Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, here we go! Decision made as Chelsea believe Sarr is top talent at centre back for long term, key part of project and his return is imminent. Formal steps to follow with #CFC on it on #DeadlineDay.”

Rosenior worked with Sarr at Strasbourg and once said of the defender: “His temperament, his athleticism, his ability on the ball, he’s got everything you need to be a world-class centre-half.”

So it should come as no surprise that Rosenior is willing o trust Sarr going forward, and it’s expected the 20-year-old will add competition in the back line.

Chelsea business elsewhere

Chelsea are also sending David Datro Fofana to Strasbourg on a separate loan deal, with the striker having spent the first half of the season in Türkiye. He returned earlier this month and has reportedly been asking for a move this month. He now heads out on yet another loan deal.

Romano has posted on X: “David Datro Fofana to RC Strasbourg, here we go! Deal done with documents approved. Despite interest from another French club and Mallorca, Datro Fofana leaves Chelsea on loan to join Strasbourg immediately. Key to help cover Emegha’s absence for next weeks.”
