Joel Ordonez deadline day offer rejected as Club Brugge name price for Liverpool target - journalist

Liverpool supporters are desperate to see their club make a new defensive signing on transfer deadline day after agreeing a summer deal for Jeremy Jacquet.

The Reds are short at both centre-back and right-back, and although the move for Jacquet is an exciting one, they could do with a more immediate fix.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Joel Ordonez earlier in the January window and for a while it had appeared that the Ecuadorian was heading to Anfield. Sadly, the transfer never materialised.

Reports have since clarified that Ordonez could still be an option for Liverpool this year, with Monday being their final opportunity to bring him in before next season.

And with the 21-year-old likely to leave Club Brugge in 2026, the Belgian side have reportedly rejected an offer on transfer deadline day.

Crystal Palace make Joel Ordonez approach

If Liverpool do not sign Ordonez this year, it feels more than possible that one of their Premier League rivals will.

According to journalist Miguel Delaney, Crystal Palace have already made an attempt.

Posting on X late on Sunday evening, Delaney claimed that Club Brugge have knocked back interest from the Eagles but have named their price in the process.

“Club Brugge have rebuffed Crystal Palace interest in Joel Ordonez, according to Belgian sources,” says the reporter.

“A few Premier League clubs are interested in him. Brugge would want over €40m [£35m].”

How happy would you be if Liverpool sign Joel Ordonez?

Is there any chance of a Liverpool move?

Even after Liverpool agreed a deal to sign Jacquet on Sunday, there is still room for them to add another centre-back this winter.

The Reds will need more than the young Frenchman if Ibrahima Konate is to leave, as looks likely. Ordonez would be another inexperienced option, but he could add to a group of defenders primed to take Liverpool into the future.

£35m does not seem like a crazy amount for the Reds to pay, and if they meet that on Monday, it sounds like Brugge would agree to a sale.

For now, it appears unlikely that Liverpool will make their move, but nothing should be ruled out until the deadline passes.
