Liverpool’s recruitment team has once again demonstrated why they’re considered among the best in European football, securing a significant coup in the battle for one of Ligue 1’s most promising defensive talents.
The Reds outmuscled Premier League rivals Chelsea to sign defensive target Jeremy Jacquet.
The highly-rated defender will remain at Rennes for the remainder of the 2025-26 season before officially joining the Anfield club ahead of pre-season in June 2026.
Standing at 1.88m (6’2″), Jacquet brings exactly the profile Arne Slot has been seeking – a modern defender with exceptional recovery pace, aerial dominance, and the technical ability to play out from the back.
The Frenchman has featured in 18 of Rennes’ 20 Ligue 1 matches this season, establishing himself as one of the division’s standout young defenders.
This signing represents forward planning from Liverpool, with Virgil van Dijk set to turn 35 in July and Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation remaining unresolved. Jacquet will become Liverpool’s second-most expensive centre-back signing behind only Van Dijk himself.
Now Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport has reported that the Frenchman will conduct his medical this Monday and that he signs a 5-year contract + 1 in option:
“Jérémy Jacquet will be in Liverpool this Monday to undergo his medical examination. The final details were settled overnight, and the player has been cleared to travel. Record transfer of 60 million euros + 12M€ in bonuses. 5-year contract + 1 in option. Jacquet will wear the Reds’ jersey next season.”
