Forest would welcome another striker, a central midfielder and a left-back before the deadline later tonight, and it promises to be an exciting day.

On deadline day, there are a number of dominoes that need to fall in order for deals to go through, and Liverpool taking a decisive stance on one of their players has seemingly ended Forest’s hopes of one signing.

Nottingham Forest hopes of Davide Frattesi ended by Liverpool

It had looked as though Forest would sign Davide Frattesi during the transfer window, however, Inter have now pulled the plug on the deal.

Inter had been willing to let Frattesi move to Forest in this window, but only on the provision that Liverpool would let them sign Curtis Jones, who they were heavily interested in.

Now, Arne Slot has spoken of his desire to keep hold of Jones, meaning that Inter boss Christian Chivu is unwilling to let Frattesi leave so close to the transfer deadline.

MORE FOREST STORIES

This is the second time that Forest have missed out on Frattesi during a January transfer window, with Inter not willing to let him go 12 months ago.

Now, it’s back to the drawing board, with Forest looking to bolster the midfield ranks after Douglas Luiz was allowed to end his loan early.

Forest need to get midfield signing sorted

Arne Engels has been linked with a move from Celtic, and that could be a deal that Forest look to explore further before tonight’s deadline.

Forest need another midfielder as things would get a little bit sticky with any injuries or suspensions, and the Reds would be wise to up the ante in the quest to bring someone in.

Frattesi is perhaps one that Forest need to rule out from ever happening, given that he’s now been scuppered from moving to the City Ground twice.

On this occasion, it feels as though Liverpool’s decision has been very detrimental, and the fact that Jones is staying put means it’s back to the drawing board for Forest on Transfer Deadline Day.
