Chelsea have until the transfer deadline at 7pm on Monday evening to complete any late deals
Chelsea are ‘pushing’ for a £26million deal for Nantes defender Tylel Tati, according to French news outlet L’Equipe. The Blues are poised to miss out on Rennes ace Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool, as per Sky Sports. Therefore, they have swiftly moved on to an alternative target.
Tati, 18, could be seen by the Premier League side as someone to boost their defensive department. He is being tipped for a bright future in the game and would be a shrewd long-term addition. His contract in Ligue 1 expires in June 2028.
Chelsea eye FC Nantes defender Tylel Tati
Tati has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Nantes this season, 18 of which have come in the league. The teenager started his career at US Roissy-en-Brie and rose up through their academy. His current club came calling for his signature in 2023 and he hasn’t looked back since.
He made his debut last August in a clash against PSG and has since become one of their most prized assets. Although he is young, he has been a calming influence at the back for Ahmed Kantari’s side in the French top flight in this campaign. It will be a blow if they lose him to Chelsea, especially midway through a campaign.
He will give Liam Rosenior another option to pick from at the back if a deal is completed. It may take him time to stamp down a place in their starting XI immediately though. Like any player from abroad, patience will be required whilst he adapts to life in a new country.
Chelsea to miss out on Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet
Chelsea are poised for a setback with Jacquet seemingly heading for Liverpool instead. The Reds have identified him as a long-term replacement for the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. Tati is two years younger than Jacquet though and half his price.
Journalist Gail Davis has said, via Sky Sports: "What happened with Jacquet is despite, as we understand, Chelsea offering the same deal as Liverpool did, the player felt his minutes may not be what was desired if he made that big move into the premier League. He is a man that has been linked to Chelsea over the past few weeks. Chelsea are looking to cover that centre back position.”
Chelsea won 3-2 at home to West Ham over the weekend. Joao Pedro, Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez got their goals. They fought back from 2-0 to beat the Hammers at Stamford Bridge.
