Man City could see a player leave and a player join the club on transfer deadline day, before the 7pm deadline.
Pep Guardiola will be disappointed that his side wasn’t able to keep pace with Arsenal over the weekend. Man City drew 2-2 against Tottenham, and so the Gunners extended their lead at the top of the table to six points.
But as the 7pm deadline draws closer, could we see any more moves in and out of the Etihad? It looks as though there could be at least one exit, and at least one player coming in.
Man City agree deal to re-call Sverre Nypan
City signed 19-year-old midfielder Sverre Nypan from Norwegian side Rosenborg for £12.5m in the summer. He then left immediately to go on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough; however, it hasn’t really worked out.
Since joining the Championship side, Nypan has made 21 appearances, but hasn’t been able to get consistent starting minutes, which Man City are reportedly not happy about. According to the Manchester Evening News, City have agreed to recall Nypan, as they believe his development would accelerate more if he were training with Pep Guardiola, rather than on loan at Middlesbrough.
It is understood that he won’t be available to play in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle, or the final, if Man City get there. It is also unlikely that the 19-year-old will be added to City’s Champions League squad; however, he will be eligible in the FA Cup and the Premier League, so we could see him in action before the end of the season.
Nypan is very highly rated and expected to be a future star in the central midfield position. He can also play as an attacking midfielder and even a false nine, but his best position is very similar to Martin Odegaard at Arsenal; he could be a valuable recall for Guardiola.
Leicester eye Man City youngster for loan
With Nypan seemingly coming back to the Etihad, one of their young players seems to be on the way out, as Leicester City are plotting a late loan move for Divine Mukasa. The same report by the Manchester Evening News confirms that the 18-year-old attacker is set to join Leicester.
The Foxes are desperately trying to add some more talent to their squad, as they look behind them at the relegation zone. Having just sacked manager Marti Cifuentes, Leicester now hope that Mukasa can give them a spark under interim boss, and former Leicester midfielder Andy King.
Mukasa has made six appearances for the Man City first team so far this season, providing an assist both in the Carabao Cup, and the FA Cup. But, it now looks like he will hone his craft in the Championship instead.
