Wolves may be one of the busier sides in the Premier League this Deadline Day

Wolverhampton Wanderers may offer a ‘lifeline’ to forgotten Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips as the midfielder looks to secure an exit from the Etihad before the transfer window closes.

Rob Edwards’ side are set to be one of the busier outfits on Deadline Day with multiple issues yet to be resolved, such as the future of Crystal Palace-linked striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. Late signings could yet arrive as the Wolves boss looks to give his outfit the best possible chance of staging a great escape.

This could include a move for Phillips, who has made just one Carabao Cup appearance for City this season and last featured in the Premier League for Ipswich Town last term. The 30-year-old signed for Pep Guardiola’s side for a fee of around £45m in 2022 but has made just 32 appearances for the club and become an outcast in Manchester, with a permanent move failing to materialise.

Wolves could make late move for Phillips

Caught Offside report that two Premier League clubs could offer Phillips a ‘lifeline’, though, in the shape of Wolves and Burnley. The relegation-battling pair could both move for the midfielder ahead of the transfer deadline amidst the belief that City are ready to sanction a cut-price exit.

A potential fee to secure the signing of Phillips could be as little as £10m and could decrease yet still as we near the deadline on Monday night. Wolves are believed to be interested in a loan deal with an option to buy, while Burnley are believed to be the only club ready to offer Phillips an immediate starting role.

Wanderers are said to view Phillips as a potential replacement for Joao Gomes, who is believed to be likely to depart if Wolves are relegated amidst interest from the likes of Napoli and Manchester United. Everton and Phillips’ former club Leeds are thought to be keeping a ‘close eye’ on proceedings and may make a late move if City’s stance softens.

Phillips is thought to be earning around £150,000 - £165,000 per week, a wage which would act as a deterrent to most if not all interested parties, meaning City may need to subsidise part of his wages in order to finalise a deal.
