The Milwaukee Bucks seem to be actively drumming up interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo from potential trade partners, but with a move likely aimed for this summer.
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, teams reaching out to Milwaukee have gotten the impression that the organization is more focused on assessing the market than on completing a trade immediately. The Bucks appear to be testing the waters and setting themselves up for a future deal, recognizing that a move right now is improbable.
Although the Milwaukee Bucks could technically trade Giannis before the deadline, particularly if he pushes hard for a move, it has always been more strategic to wait until the summer.
By then, teams will have more draft assets available, and Milwaukee will know the positioning of everyone’s 2026 draft picks. Right now, the offers teams can make are limited.

Why rush a deal when waiting a few extra months could yield more value? The Bucks’ best approach is to pique the interest of potential trade partners now and aim to reengage with them during the summer when draft capital and assets are more plentiful.
The Bucks might be able to secure a decent package for Giannis now, but waiting a few months could allow them to land an exceptional one. When dealing with a player of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s caliber, you have to aim for the top return.
Jon Horst and The Bucks are clearly looking for maximum value from any team that trades for Giannis, which suggests they understand the stakes.

Part of this equation could certainly also be the Milwaukee Bucks trying to buy time for themselves. Giannis hasn’t flat-out requested a trade. All of the chatter makes it sound like he’s simply open to playing elsewhere.
It will become clear within the next week whether the Bucks are genuinely looking to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo before the deadline. Much can shift in just a few days, but for now, reports that Milwaukee is simply exploring interest indicate the team is not aggressively pursuing a move to part ways with its star.
