Sky Sports pundit reckons Chelsea player could end up at Crystal Palace on deadline day

The chances of Chelsea signing any players on deadline day look slim, but in terms of outgoings, Chelsea are expected to green-light a few departures, and one could join Crystal Palace.

The pursuit of a new defender has hit the skids, with Jeremy Jacquet set to join Liverpool come the summer window and a bid for Nantes’ Tylel Tati rejected. A midfielder is also looking off the cards.

But in terms of possible departures before the 7pm deadline, there are expected to be a few. Duo Aaron Anselmino and David Fofana are joining Strasbourg on loan, the latter replacing Emmanuel Emegha.

Axel Disasi could join Saturday’s opponents West Ham while duo Jimi Touriainen and Harry McGlinchey are expected to leave before the day is up. Charlie Austin reckons another could leave for Selhurst Park.

Across the capital, Palace are looking for a defender having sold Marc Guehi to Man City, six months before his Eagles contract expired. They are yet to bring in a new signing but that could change today.

Crystal Palace have been linked with Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong during the winter window, and on Sky Sports (02/02, 8.30AM), former Premier League striker Austin backed a possible move to Palace.

“You don’t want to look back and think ‘what if?’ Maybe there is a deal to be done with Chelsea for Josh Acheampong to go in there. Chelsea and Palace do good business, so that wouldn’t be a surprise.”

Why Acheampong could be tempted to leave Chelsea

Chelsea have reportedly made Acheampong unavailable for sale this month despite interest from Palace and even German giants Bayern Munich. But as the window goes on, Acheampong may push to leave.

How much would you SELL Acheampong for? 😤

It would have to be a hefty price…

That is because the defender has only started two of Liam Rosenior’s seven games and now, Mamadou Sarr is set to be recalled from Strasbourg. Malo Gusto is fit and Tosin will return in the next few weeks.

Acheampong’s window for game time is getting smaller and while he would be wrong to expect to start week in, week out, the teen will know he needs to keep playing to turn potential into proven quality.

Chelsea are clearly reluctant to lose their academy product, but realistically, they may sanction a loan in order to give the England youth international game time between now and the end of the season.
