Tom Garry from the Guardian reports that Katie McCabe is set to leave the club this summer when her contract expires. This reflects information that we’ve had over the last few months that another contract offer was unlikely.
In the past, McCabe wore the captain’s armband when main captains Kim Little and Leah Williamson were not available but that has changed this season, with Steph Catley and Lotte Wubben-Moy sometimes wearing the armband ahead of her. Though McCabe’s performances mean she remains an integral part of the team, Slegers slightly refreshed the leadership group over the summer.
McCabe was dropped from the starting line-up for the Conti Cup semi-final against Manchester City last season after her red card in the 1-0 defeat at Chelsea, though she remains part of the leadership group and a consistent presence in the starting line-up due to her consistent performances and peerless fitness.
There is already reported interest from the NWSL in the player who has been with the club for 11 years and won everything there is to win. The Gunners are working on a deal for One Batlle from Barcelona and are negotiating a new deal for Emily Fox. Arsenal have several senior players out of contract in the summer and will refresh the squad, we believe they were willing to do more of that work last summer but contract situations made it tricky, which is less of an obstacle this summer.
Meanwhile, Emma Sanders from the BBC reports that a pre-contract agreement for Georgia Stanway to join the club on a free transfer this summer is very close. Again, our information is that interest in the player is long standing but that Bayern were not willing to sell before the end of her contract. We were also always told that the player is keen to join Arsenal dating back from last summer but that Bayern wanted to get the full length of her contract.
Arsenal want to add to their midfield with Kim Little turning 36 in the summer and Mariona about to turn 30 and Victoria Pelova out of contract in the summer. We believe Stanway is not the only midfielder the club would ideally like to add to the squad.
