Jeremy Jacquet has reportedly arrived for his medical on Merseyside. The Anfield club has agreed a €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons fee to Rennes for the transfer.
This deal showed Liverpool’s ability to outmaneuver their rivals in the transfer market, especially after the Marc Guehi saga and the Caicedo saga a few seasons ago. Chelsea had been engaged in lengthy discussions with both Jacquet and Rennes throughout January, but the Blues were ultimately unable to match Liverpool’s offer.
The Telegraph reported that Chelsea proposed an identical financial package, but over the past 48 hours, as it became clear that Mamadou Sarr would return to Stamford Bridge from Strasbourg and Josh Acheampong would stay, Jacquet changed his mind and committed to Anfield.
Manchester United also reportedly attempted a last-ditch hijack on Sunday evening, but their late intervention proved unsuccessful as Jacquet had already agreed personal terms with Liverpool.
However, Jacquet will only become a Liverpool player from June this year, meaning the 20-year-old will remain at Rennes to play out the current campaign.
Now Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to report that the Frenchman has now arrived to do his medical checks ahead of the deal being made official:
“Jeremy Jacquet, 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃 to undergo medical tests and sign at Liverpool.”
“Contract until 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟏 plus a one-year option for the centre back, €𝟕𝟐𝐦 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 agreed with Rennes.”
“Jacquet will become Liverpool player from June 2026.”
