Jarrett Allen carries Cavs on his shoulders with best game of his NBA career

Jarrett Allen attempted a heat check 3-pointer.

That's how much the Cleveland Cavaliers' afro-rocking center was feeling it during the first half on Sunday in Portland. All his buckets had come from within a couple feet of the basket during a hot start, but that had him feeling so good about life that he chucked up a 3 from the top of the key.

It was long, a brick really, but that's about the only thing that didn't go right for Allen on Sunday night against the Trail Blazers.

In the end, Allen totaled a career-high 40 points in the Cavs' 130-111 win. He was 16-for-23 from the floor and 8-for-12 from the line.

Allen added 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks.

He dominated early by running the floor, beating Portland's Donovan Clingan to his spot over and over again.

And once Allen was cooking, the Cavs started looking for him like he was a sharpshooter on fire. Craig Porter Jr. drove the lane specifically until he had a passing angle to Allen, then dropped it off for an easy hoop on multiple occasion. Porter finished with 12 assists, a bunch of them to The 'Fro.

Donovan Mitchell only needed 14 points on this night as he added nine assists of his own, setting up Allen and Sam Merrill (22 points, 6-8 3FG) for plenty of buckets.

Allen, who needed just 30 minutes to score his 40 points, is one of those players who can drift through games at times if he doesn't get off to a fast start.

On this night, that wasn't a problem. He scored 12 consecutive Cleveland points at one point early in the first quarter, and he was off and running from there.

The Cavs will get their trade reinforcements with them in Los Angeles to take on the Clippers on Wednesday, with debuts expected for Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis.

Wherever those new guys were watching from on Sunday night, they got a view of just how good Allen can be.
