Liverpool transfer news as a defender could depart on deadline day.
Liverpool will allow a defender to potentially leave on deadline day.
The Reds are reportedly willing to sanction an exit for Calvin Ramsay. The Athletic suggests that Arne Slot’s side will give the green light if a ‘suitable offer’ is made before tonight.s 19.00 GMT deadline.
As things stand, Ramsay is Liverpool’s only recognised right-back. Conor Bradley is ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, while Jeremie Frimpong is sidelined with a groin problem. However, the 22-year-old has been overlooked for a starting place by Reds head coach Slot.
In the 4-1 win over Newcastle United last weekend, Dominik Szoboszlai was used as a makeshift full-back. Ramsay has been on the bench in the past nine Premier League matches. However, he has played just once this season, which was a 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Crystal Palace.
Ramsay joined Liverpool from Aberdeen for a fee of £4.2 million in the summer of 2022. However, he has had injury issues and struggled during loan spells at Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Kilmarnock.
Slot recently admitted he has ‘better options’ at right-back than Ramsay. Joe Gomez, who has had a minor hip issue, can play in the role while Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo have been preferred this season.
"It is great for Calvin where he is,” said Slot. “He came back to the under-21s half a year ago and everyone there is hoping for a big chance and it is a big chance he is having now to come to the first team.
"When someone is really unlucky with injuries, there is always someone who benefits and Calvin is one of those. But I still think I have better options to play, but at the moment I am running out of options.
"He has shown in that one game against Palace and when he trained with us that he is good enough to be in and around our players, then sometimes you have to wait for a chance to show this to the rest of the world, but at this moment I have - in my opinion - still better options."
