'Superb signing': French football expert gives exciting verdict on just how good Jacquet can become at Liverpool

Liverpool supporters are already looking ahead to next summer when they can count on the arrival of French centre-back talent Jeremy Jacquet.

Reds fans would absolutely love nothing more than to see their club sign a new defender on Monday’s transfer deadline day, but it looks like Jacquet’s future arrival will have to do.

The disappointment of not seeing a more immediate signing should not take anything away from just how good a signing the 20-year-old could be for Liverpool.

As the potential £60m fee with Rennes would suggest, Jacquet is incredibly highly-rated and could even come straight into the Liverpool XI next season.

One person who knows all about Jacquet is French football expert Julien Laurens, and the journalist thinks Liverpool may be about to sign a future best defender in the world candidate.

Jeremy Jacquet backed to become best in the world

Liverpool fans know exactly what having the best centre-back in the world looks like having watched Virgil van Dijk for the past eight years.

The Reds will ultimately be hoping that Jacquet can step into the Dutchman’s size 12s, and according to Laurens, there is a chance that he one day could.

“I can’t stress enough what a superb signing Jeremy Jacquet will be for Liverpool!” the journalist posted on X.

“He is a special talent and has everything to become one of the best defenders in the world. And he is Paris born and bred too which makes him even more special!”

Expectations will no doubt continue to be raised on Jacquet in the months leading up to his arrival, as Liverpool supporters tune in to watch him with Rennes.

Will Jacquet go to the World Cup with France?

With glowing reviews from the likes of Laurens, it may not be long before Jacquet finds himself in the national team.

However, if there’s one thing France have consistently produced over the past few years, it is centre-backs.

Les Bleus have some ridiculous depth in the middle of defence, with Ibrahima Konate not even secured of his place in the starting XI.

So far, Jacquet has not yet been recognised by the senior national team and it would be a surprise if he were before the summer’s tournament.

He will hope that, like Konate, a move to Liverpool will lead to a career with France, but so far he looks likely to report to Anfield on the first day of pre-season. This World Cup will come too soon for him, but he’ll have his eyes on the next one, no doubt about that.
