It took over a month, but Liverpool have finally done some business in the winter transfer window, signing Jeremy Jacquet.
Liverpool won the race ahead of Chelsea for the centre-back, who is joining in a deal worth an initial £55m.
FSG can spend more after Jacquet’s transfer, but at present, it looks as though he will be the only addition this month.

Liverpool have been light on centre-back options for much of this season due to various reasons.
But that will continue for the time being, as Jacquet isn’t linking up with the Reds until June 2026.
Jamie Carragher reacts to Jeremy Jacquet joining Liverpool
Now, speaking live on Sky Sports’ coverage of Deadline Day, Jamie Carragher has shared his thoughts on the transfer.
Carragher said he was pleased with the deal for Jacquet, but was also quick to mention that Liverpool need a new defender right now.

He said: “Yeah, pleased, that they’ve made a signing in that area. Liverpool need reinforcement in that area right now, but they definitely need that in the summer.
“It looks like Konate maybe going to move on, still hasn’t signed a contract yet, so I think they’re getting their young centre-backs for the future. Unfortunately, Leoni, who they signed last summer, has had an ACL injury.”
Carragher was then asked about being frustrated at Liverpool agreeing the deal for the summer.
He added: “Yes, but when the deal’s been done with Rennes, that maybe is part of the deal and the reason why Liverpool have got the deal over the line, is the fact that they can say to Rennes, you can keep the player until the end of the season. It’s not going to disrupt the season in France between now and the end of the season.
“So, yeah, I can understand it, but it’s their player. You have to sort of play by their rules. Liverpool paid top money for a player of that age, and the future holds as well at centre-back, but they have pressing problems right now that they need to fix.”

Paul Merson in agreement with Jamie Carragher about Jeremy Jacquet
It’s easy to see why some are questioning the move for the stopper not being completed until the summer.
Liverpool only have two fit centre-backs right now, and Ryan Gravenberch recently had to play alongside Virgil van Dijk while Ibrahima Konate was away for personal reasons.
Alongside Carragher, Paul Merson questioned the Jacquet deal on Monday, expressing his shock.
He said: “I found it extraordinary that [Jacquet] is coming in the summer. They need a centre-half now to get top four or top five.
“I’m majorly shocked. I don’t know why for the life of me he’s staying in France until the start of next season. With that kind of money, you want him now!”
