Nuno Espirito Santo is still desperate to see his West Ham defence bolstered before the end of Deadline Day.
West Ham remain on the lookout for a new centre-back before the January transfer window slams shut on Monday night with another three goals flying past Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at the weekend.
The Hammers hold the worst defensive record in the Premier League with 48 goals shipped this season. Nuno is not thought to be convinced by the options of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos.
A silly red card for Todibo and a three-match ban was the latest defensive calamity in the defeat to Chelsea. West Ham were already in the market for a centre-back and the latest performance and ban adds urgency.
West Ham target’s stance on loan move questioned
There have been no shortage of transfer rumours. Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell had been linked with a move to the London Stadium and so too had Newcastle United stalwart Jamaal Lascelles. However, West Ham are no longer thought to be in the running for those deals.
The most likely candidate appears to be Chelsea man Axel Disasi. The defender has become somewhat of a forgotten figure at Stamford Bridge, being kicked into the ‘bomb squad’ and out of the first team following a short loan at Aston Villa last season.
The former Monaco man is thought to have an offer on the table from West Ham, should he want it. However, it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old wants to join the club’s relegation battle.
Providing the latest on the deal, The Sun reporter James Rosser wrote: “West Ham have agreed a loan deal with Chelsea for Axel Disasi, medical scheduled but talks still ongoing with the player himself. Disasi turned down West Ham in the summer.”
Mads Hermansen linked with Leicester City return
Meanwhile, there could be another exit from West Ham today. The club has already seen first team stars Lucas Paqueta and James Ward-Prowse leave the club and summer signing Mads Hermansen could follow.
The London outfit paid £20 million to sign the goalkeeper from Leicester City last summer but the 25-year-old quickly fell out of favour after a poor start to the campaign with Alphonse Areola reclaiming the number one spot.
talkSPORT claim that Leicester City could look at bringing Hermansen back to the King Power Stadium with Jakub Stolarczyk keeping just four clean sheets in goal for the Foxes so far this season. Other Championship sides are also said to be keen on the player, who helped the Foxes to promotion under Enzo Maresca two years ago.
