Tottenham miss out on surprise signing as Deadline Day decision made

Tottenham Hotspurs Football Newsletter

Standard Sport understands that, with Kostas Tsimikas expected to stay at Roma, Robertson will not leave Liverpool before tonight's 7pm deadline.

Spurs launched surprise talks over signing Robertson late in January, with both the player and Liverpool open to a deal.

However, any potential deal hinged on Liverpool being able to recall Greek left-back Tsimikas or sign a replacement.

With Tsimikas set to stay at Roma until the end of the season, Spurs' pursuit of Robertson has come to an end.

Robertson had been keen to play more minutes ahead of this summer's World Cup, but is now set to stay on Merseyside.

Spurs’ interest in Robertson could be revived in the summer when his Liverpool contract is current set to expire.

The former Hull City full-back signed for Liverpool 2017 and has gone on to win every major domestic and European honour during his time at the club.

Robertson last week described Liverpool as "home" in a social media post reaffirming his commitment to the club.

Thomas Frank said Spurs would be active in the market on Deadline Day, but the chances off a late incoming appear increasingly unlikely.

Instead, the club have been busy facilitating loan exits, with George Abbott set to join League One side Mansfield Town and Alfie Dorrington attracting interest from League Two Salford City.
