Report: Manchester City asked about signing Chelsea player this month as loan bid now rejected

If Chelsea fans were hoping to learn of some incoming players on deadline day, they will end up disappointed. But Chelsea are busy, with plenty set to leave the club today.

The Blues are expected to end the window with just one addition, in teenage left-back Yisa Alao from Sheffield Wednesday in a deal believed to have cost £1m. Instead, plenty are set to leave Chelsea.

Axel Disasi is now at West Ham undergoing a medical, though the defender is yet to confirm if he actually wants to join. U21 duo Harry McGlinchey and Jimi Tauriainen are expected to leave before the deadline.

Then, Aaron Anselmino and David Fofana are off to Strasbourg on loan, while Mamadou Sarr returns to Chelsea. But there is interest in another Chelsea player, with Crystal Palace tabling a loan bid today.

Crystal Palace see loan offer rejected for Josh Acheampong

Marc Guehi completed a move to Man City earlier this month, having entered the final six months of his contract. Chelsea opted against a move for Guehi due to the enormous wages that he now earns at City.

But it has left Palace light at centre-back and The Eagles have been touted with Chelsea’s 19-year-old star Acheampong. Now, The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg reports Palace have seen a loan bid rejected.

It comes after Chelsea’s stance was that Acheampong was unavailable for sale, even if he’s only started two of Liam Rosenior’s seven games and with Malo Gusto fit, his game time is now likely to reduce.

Manchester City wanted to sign Josh Acheampong this month

Bayern Munich have also been linked with the England youth international this month, but interestingly, Steinberg claims Man City wanted to sign Acheampong from Chelsea. But he now looks set to stay put.

Would YOU sanction a loan for Acheampong to Palace on deadline day? 🫵

Whether City make a late move or Palace return with an improved offer before the deadline remains to be seen. But as things stand, Acheampong will stay at Chelsea, with Rosenior a big fan of the teenage star.

Realistically, Chelsea would be foolish to let Acheampong go with Tosin injured, Anselmino set for a move to France and Disasi on his way to West Ham. Even with Sarr back, keeping Acheampong makes sense.
