The Dallas Mavericks could consider trading Anthony Davis for a minimal return focused only on expiring contracts to gain long-term flexibility, despite his star status.
Some within the Dallas Mavericks organization would be open to trading 10-time All-Star big man Anthony Davis even if the return consists only of expiring contracts, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

The appeal of such a move would be the financial flexibility it could give Dallas as the franchise looks to build around reigning No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg.
However, MacMahon notes that this approach would be difficult to sell to majority owner Patrick Dumont, who does not feel any urgency to move Davis at this time.
Ideally, the Mavericks would seek a package that includes first-round draft picks, young players, and salary relief through expiring contracts.
If a deal were to materialize ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, ESPN's Shams Charania reports that the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks are viewed as the most likely suitors.

AD had been considered one of the biggest names on this year's trade market, but his value has been complicated by health concerns.
He has been sidelined since January 8 with ligament damage in his left hand, and his long injury history continues to worry potential trade partners.
His contract is another major factor. Davis is set to earn $58.5 million next season and holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
