The New York Knicks have long been linked totrade rumors involving Milwaukee Bucks superstar power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Last year, theKnicks reportedly had a window to discuss a potential trade for the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, but obviously, that did not result in Antetokounmpo going to the Big Apple.
On Monday morning, NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN said that the Knicks are just not too interested in getting Antetokounmpo via a trade.
Here’s what Windhorst said about it during Monday’s edition of ESPN’s Get Up (h/tHeat Central):
“The Knicks believe in this team.. They believed in this team last summer when Giannis was loosely available in those discussions. They didn’t make an aggressive offer at the time of those talks. If they want to win a bidding war now, I think it’s going to take a 3 or 4 team trade…. That is just not happening. They are not showing that aggression to get Giannis right now and I think thats because they like this team”
Are the Knicks out of the equation for Bucks’ Antetokounmpo?
A trade involving Antetokounmpo for the Knicks is likely going to be complicated, given the talent New York would be acquiring in such a transaction.
While having Antetokounmpo is a salivating thought for any team, including New York, the Knicks already have a deep roster and title-ready bunch, at least on paper. They have one of the most impressive starting units in the NBA, led by the 1-2 punch of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.
With Josh Jart, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby, New York theoretically has what it takes to bring home an NBA championship as soon as this season for the first time since 1970.
