What Chris Wilder said about Sheffield United’s Kalvin Phillips transfer link amid progress on ex-Leeds United man deal
Chris Wilder refused to be drawn on speculation linking Sheffield United with a stunning deadline-day swoop for former England international Kalvin Phillips. The Manchester City man is attracting a lot of interest both domestically and abroad amid his lack of game-time at the Etihad.
The former Leeds United man has played just once this season for City, for seven minutes off the bench as a substitute in the EFL Cup, but United are understood to be battling a number of sides to sign him on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Star has been told that, crucially, City are willing to subsidise a huge portion of Phillips’ wages, which are well into the six-figure range and well out of United’s current budget. It would be a real statement of intent from United, who are hoping to kickstart a climb up the table in what remains of the season.
Asked at his press conference this afternoon about interest in Phillips ahead of tonight’s 7pm deadline, and tomorrow’s Championship clash with Oxford United at Bramall Lane, Wilder played it with the straightest of bats.
“There are going to be players in the next two or three hours that are linked and flying about all over the place,” he said. “I just got a call from somebody asking if something was true, and there's interest in players right the way through.
“We're interested in good players. I said all along I want the group to be strong when the window shuts. It’s a working day for us and we're working hard to get some over the line,
“We've had some interest in our players and we're interested in good players. So, let's wait and see and hopefully people will be positive.”
United’s interest in Phillips comes while they are already closing in on one other former Leeds midfielder, in the shape of current Rangers man Joe Rothwell. The Blades, as we revealed earlier, had begun the medical process in bringing him in from Rangers.
“Joe’s in situ,” Wilder confirmed, “and hopefully we can get that one over the He's somebody that gives us that strength in depth in the midfield department, and someone I've liked for quite a long time, So he’ll bring good competition and balance in there with if we get it over the line.”
