The latest surrounding Marcus Rashford and his future at Manchester United
An update into the future of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United has been revealed, amidst reports that Michael Carrick hopes to bring the 28-year-old back to Old Trafford if he is given the permanent job in the summer.
Rashford has enjoyed a productive loan spell at Barcelona, where he has registered 10 goals and 12 assists and endeared himself to the Nou Camp faithful. It was believed that his Old Trafford journey was over after the forward was frozen out by Ruben Amorim, but stunning reports have emerged of a potential reunion with his boyhood club next summer.
Latest reports suggest this is unlikely, though, as Barcelona hold a £26million buy option to make Rashford’s stay in Catalonia a permanent one. The player has been settling in well into life in Spain at one of the world’s biggest clubs and has even been learning Spanish, with a return to Manchester viewed as unlikely at present.
Rashford ‘moves on’ from United as return unlikely
Reports from Mail Sport, relaying updates from Marca in Spain, state that Rashford has ‘moved on’ from Man United and wants to commit his future to Barcelona.
The Catalan giants hold a £26m buy option which would leave United ‘powerless’ if it is triggered, with Rashford’s time on the books at the Red Devils coming closer to being over for good. He has reportedly ‘put down roots’ in Barcelona after buying an apartment in the city, while continuing to learn Spanish as he becomes more accustomed to his new team-mates.
Rashford told the BBC in December about his life in Barcelona: “It's been amazing. I feel welcome, I feel at home. I've just been enjoying every step of the way. Learning the language and stuff like that, learning the culture, it's all enjoyable for me. It's something I wanted to do for a long time and this is the perfect opportunity. I'm understanding more now, and the speaking side of it, it's more just confidence to do it in front of a group.”
Carrick has made a fantastic start to life as United head coach with three victories from three Premier League matches and has reportedly instilled a ‘feel-good factor’ back into Old Trafford. It is believed, though, that his desire to be reunited with former team-mate Rashford will fall on deaf ears.
