Liverpool have so far put up a dismal Premier League title defence but there is still time for them to bolster their squad on deadline day

Liverpool have been relatively quiet in the transfer window so far as deadline day arrives. But there is still time on the clock for the reigning Premier League champions to strengthen their ranks.
Arne Slot's side currently sit outside the top four and despite early title hopes, these have all but dwindled. The Reds spent heavily in the summer, parting with nearly £450million to sign the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
Such excessive expenditure has meant this winter window has been quiet to date but new developments suggest £55m will soon be spent. That is because a deal for French defender Jeremy Jacquet has been agreed.
Other Premier League sides targeted the 20-year-old but the Reds have negotiated a pre-agreement and he is expected to join in the summer. However, they have already welcomed one new arrival in January and the ECHO takes a look at some other moves that could be made.

Mor Talla Ndiaye confirmed
Liverpool's summer spending made any serious January business unlikely but with their eyes on the future, they welcomed young Senegal defender Mor Talla Ndiaye early in the window.
The 18-year-old was snapped up from Amitie FC in his home country in a deal thought to be worth £1m. He links up with the club's Under-21 side, having caught the eye at the Under-17 World Cup last year.

It is also worth noting that, as with Jacquet, the Reds have agreed in principle to sign young Austrian defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien during the upcoming summer window.
Lutsharel Geertruida signed
Concerning potential deals, one that could yet materialise is the signing of current Sunderland star Lutsharel Geertruida. The defender had been targeted by Slot's side as defensive cover.
However, despite the player being keen on making the move, which would have seen him return to his parent club RB Leipzig before penning a short-term deal at Anfield, this transfer looks dead in the water.

Sunderland have been unable to identify a replacement and therefore did not wish to approve this deal. But things move quickly on deadline day and a last-gasp arrival at the Stadium of Light could reignite this transfer.
With a handful of defenders injured, the versatile Geertruida, who only moved to England in the summer, would provide excellent cover at right-back and centre-back. Though his potential arrival depends on other dominoes falling into place.
Curtis Jones sold
Liverpool could also sanction some outgoings on deadline day and one name mooted for an exit is Curtis Jones. The homegrown talent has less than 18 months left on his current deal.
Jones has played sparingly under Slot this season and was linked with a move away in January to gain substantial first-team minutes. Inter Milan were a reported interested party.
However, the ECHO understands that any exit has now stalled and discussions with other clubs have been halted. Yet, there could be further developments on the last day of the window and an exit can't be 100 per cent ruled out.

Andrew Robertson sold
Another name who was rumoured to be on his way out of Anfield this window is Andrew Robertson. One of the Reds' most loyal servants has found himself behind Milos Kerkez in the left-back pecking order.
Due to their injury problems, Tottenham had shown interest in Robertson and hoped to sign him as cover. But Liverpool were unable to sanction a move.
Robertson's contract expires at the season's end, so if the club decides to cash in on their vice-captain rather than allow the Scotland star to leave on a free, a last-minute development could occur.
