Late approach falls short – French defender turns down Chelsea plan

Chelsea’s attempt to sign Tylel Tati has failed, with the defender deciding to stay at FC Nantes until the end of the season.

As we covered earlier, the Blues made a late push over the past 48 hours. Chelsea tried to accelerate the process on deadline day, as they continued to look for defensive solutions. However, L’Équipe informs there is now no expectation of a last-minute reversal.

The report explains that Chelsea presented Tati with a defined plan. The proposal involved a permanent transfer from Nantes, followed by an immediate loan to Strasbourg for the second half of the campaign. The player took time to consider the offer before making a final call.

Several hours of discussions took place on Monday morning between Tati and Chelsea decision-makers. During those talks, the club outlined the financial framework of the move. Chelsea proposed a non-written offer worth around £25.5m (€30m), which also included a sell-on clause.

Despite the size of the offer, Tati chose to turn the move down. His decision focused on sporting reasons. The 18-year-old wants regular minutes and believes staying in Nantes gives him the best chance of playing a full season. He also wants to help his boyhood club avoid relegation.

As a result, Chelsea must now look elsewhere in the final hours of the window, while Tati remains committed to his development in Ligue 1.
