Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are ‘actively looking at options’ following the foot injury to Mikel Merino which is set to rule the midfielder for a significant period.
Merino has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists, but it seems that his season could be over this campaign’
A club statement read: “Mikel will have surgery in the coming days and will then begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme. Mikel is expected to be out of action for an extended period, with the aim of returning to full training before the end of the season.
“Everyone is fully focused on supporting Mikel to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
Now Mikel Arteta has come out and revealed that ARSENAL are looking to possibly sign a replacement for Merino: “We had the news a few a days ago [about Merino’s injury],” said Arteta.
“We are always active in every window. We also had the departure of Ethan [Nwaneri] to Marseille.
“We are actively looking at options – we will try to find a solution, but if we don’t we will continue in the same manner we are now.”

Versatile and tactically intelligent, he is an invaluable squad player capable of slotting into different roles. And while he has mostly played in midfield in recent months, his goal against Manchester United last weekend was a reminder of his striking instincts.
He will be a massive loss for ARSENAL and their season, but if Arteta doesnt manage to get an immediate replacement, that squad is full of quality and we are sure that he will be able to get through the season without Merino.
But he will still be a loss.
