Liverpool have moved to bring back a young goalkeeper in the middle of a season-long League Two loan. It is the kind of decision that usually comes down to timing and squad needs. The calendar is tight.
The deadline is close. Clubs do not wait around when options can change in one week. The keeper involved has been playing regular first-team football in League Two this season.
He has made 19 appearances in all competitions, including 17 league games. His numbers show a busy campaign. He has two clean sheets, 50 saves, and 36 goals conceded in 1,710 minutes.
That is real exposure, not academy football. This loan spell followed a long-term contract extension agreed last summer. The plan was clear. Get minutes. Build experience. Return sharper.
There is also a clear theme in his development. He has been trusted as the number one at this level before. A previous League Two loan brought 32 appearances. He has also stayed close to Liverpool’s first-team environment.
He has trained around the senior set-up and has regularly been included in matchday squads, even though he has not made a competitive debut. At his loan club, the manager has praised his “calm presence”, alongside his shot-stopping and his ability to play out from the back. That style matters to Liverpool. It matches what the club asks from goalkeepers.
Now, Liverpool have decided they want him back. Harvey Davies, 22, who has been on loan at Crawley Town F.C., has now been called back to his parent club. He is a local lad, a “Scouser”, who joined Liverpool’s academy at under-nine level and has been highly regarded at the AXA Training Centre.
The expectation is that he stays with the Reds, but another loan could still happen if the right move appears before the deadline. For Liverpool, it is a move that keeps options open. It protects the squad. And it brings back a keeper who has been tested properly this season.
A club statement read: “Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that goalkeeper Harvey Davies has been recalled by his parent club Liverpool. The shot-stopper joined the Reds at the start of the 2025/26 season and went on to feature for the Red Devils on 19 occasions.
“Everybody at the club would like to thank Harvey for his contributions to the club during his time at the Broadfield Stadium, and wishes him every success in the future.”
