Nike Is Using a Classic Skate Shoe to Look Back on Kobe Bryant’s 2011 NBA All-Star MVP Performance

With the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles this year, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Nike is going Kobe Bryant-centric for many of its sneaker releases pegged to the basketball spectacle. Less expected, though, is the inclusion of a classic Nike SB skate shoe in the slate.

The Nike SB P-Rod 1 “All-Star” uses Paul Rodriguez’s first signature sneaker to call back to Bryant’s MVP award for the 2011 All-Star Game. A red, burgundy and gold colorway is modeled after the West Team’s uniform from 15 years ago, with a gold-tone medal lace dubrae using that year’s logo lest there be any doubts about the source material.

Red suede dresses the majority of the upper, save for a metallic gold nylon weave Swoosh and burgundy leather mustache and tongue tag. Gold branding is added to those latter two elements, while burgundy is used again for the laces and sole unit.

The first of Rodriguez’s 10 signature sneakers was brought back as a retro in 2025 for its 20th anniversary. Just two colorways were released in the first year of its return, but late last year, the pro skater himself previewed several more to come in 2026.

In their time as Nike athletes, Bryant and Rodriguez crossed paths several times, including in the Nike SB “It Was a Good Day” commercial from 2009. And a video made to celebrate Rodriguez reaching the 10-sneaker mark for his signature line, Bryant welcomed him to the club, calling it a “statement to his legacy of unparalleled performance and a signature that changed the game.”

Nike’s 2026 All-Star releases will also include a Kobe Protro 1 and Kobe Bryant x Nike Air Force 1 Low, sharing a colorway that pays tribute to the LA Forum. The Kobe Protro 6 “All-Star” will revive the very sneaker worn by Bryant in the 2011 All-Star Game, and also slated for return is the Huarache 2K4 “All-Star,” which was likewise worn by Bryant in 2004 prior to his Nike line beginning.

The Nike SB P-Rod 1 “All-Star” will release Feb. 10, likely through the Snkrs app and select skate shops. Pricing is set at $120.
